A new paradigm

We were wrong. Serenity was taught to not cross the road when there is a car in sight. We were paranoid about reversing cars in the drive way and like good parents made sure Seren had the same phobia. On hearing a car start up 3 houses down the road Serenity would dive , roll and take cover.

We were walking down a narrow congested footpath with Serenity following right behind me and Glynis at the back (You could only go single file). A guy started a scooter on the footpath and Serenity leapt  into action. She sprang out from behind me and onto the road. Somehow the white van managed to avoid hitting her by swerving into the oncoming traffic. Great.

We are not in Kansas anymore. The rules are different. Scooters  can overtake on inside, outside, run reds and drive on footpath. For Serenity's safety she has to unlearn what we have taught her. She has to be confident and aware of the traffic and not react like a frightened gazelle.            (M)
