Myanmar .. Sunset Bowling

I had no idea what to do. It started like this.

When you go to Myanmar there is an overwhelming need to climb a temple and capture a sunset. Its a mass hysteria. Its like having pizza in Italy, dumplings in Hong Kong or a pie on British rail. Its just something that you do and we were no exception.

We arrived early and claimed our vantage point at the top of a very steep temple. As it neared sunset the structure was full of eager people, cameras waiting. I was pushed up against a wall on a narrow ledge and Seren and Glynis were seated on a parapet wall just in front of me.

My problem started when a young European women standing next to me started to climb the wall hoping for a better shot. If she had of been there earlier she would have heard police ordering others not to climb the wall. The problem I had is when she fell it would have knocked Glynis from her seat into serious injury or worse. I told the women that if she fell she was going to kill my wife. Looks like it wasn't her problem and she argued that she would land daintily on the walkway if she fell. Now I may go to hell for this but this women was more Bridget Jones than Cat women. There was no way she was going to fall backwards from a wall without bowling other people off the temple face.

A male of any age would have got off the wall with little persuasion. An older female would not have been stupid enough to climb it. This female knew she was untouchable. To prove it she climbed up twice knowing there was nothing I could do. The only redeeming things is she was not strong enough to hold herself on the wall for long. She could only teeter for a few minutes before reversing down.

During this I noticed that Seren had water over her face. She said she was sweating. Later on she admitted that she was had been crying as didn't want mummy to die. We talked about it and both agreed that it would be inconvenient.

This is the wall. I ended up standing behind Seren. The path narrows there to shoulder width. Not much of a landing pad. Both Seren and Glynis are sitting on a small parapat wall with a large drop.
