Myanmar .. transport

We spent  a couple of days in Yangon which is a crazy city, gridlocked with taxis. It does have an amazing national airports which is such a contrast.  We then decided to fly to Bagon where it is more sedate.

Arrive in Bagon. No traffic jams.

 We rented electric bikes to explore Bagan. Good value at $8 NZD a day.

I actually wanted a chopper with ape hangers and a banana seat but in time came to love my E-bike.

The roads are mainly dirt and dust so the ebikes were a little difficult in the soft stuff. We only saw one accident where someone lost it. It was on the other side of the road and the locals had picked up the rider and dusted them down before we could help.























This is how we go to market. A small horse but he could get up some speed on the straights.

To save money and soak up the ambience we decided to overnight bus from Bagon back to Yagon. It also saves on a nights accommodation. Yippee. We were originally considering the train but Glynis was concerned about derailments.

The bus was a surreal experience.It was a great bus but road not the best. Its more like hundreds of potholes fulled in and joined up to resemble a road. You can imagine my delight when next morning my fitbit had calculated I had done 9500 steps between sleeping and dozing on the bus overnight.

There was a hostess and trainee hostess on the bus. They had borrowed some moves from the airline industry. Late at night they stopped the bus and grabbed a stainless steel food trolley from storage under the bus. The hostess then pushed this down the isle while handing out complimentary snacks. They then returned the trolley back to under bus storage as inflight service had now ended.
